Auburn baseball slated a No. 2 seed in latest Baseball America projections
AUBURN — Auburn baseball might be the hottest team in college baseball with one week remaining in the regular season.
TIGERS ARE ROLLING: Butch Thompson’s crew has won four straight SEC series and is 9-3 in their last 12 conference games. That’s after a 5-10 start to league play.
- Auburn took two of three against Mississippi State at home, two of three at then No. 3 South Carolina, two of three against then No. 1 LSU, and then swept Ole Miss last weekend.
- LSU is No. 4 and South Carolina is No. 5 in the current RPI rankings.
- Auburn’s RPI has climbed from well outside the top 40 to No. 20 as it stands now.
- Auburn hosts Missouri this weekend. Missouri is No. 38 in the latest RPI rankings with a 7-12 record on the road.
- Auburn sits at 30-19 overall, 20-9 at home and 8-10 on the road this season.
PROJECTED OUT WEST: Auburn is projected as the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional in Baseball America’s latest projections. BA projects Stanford as the No. 5 overall national seed.
- The two played in the opening game of last year’s College World Series, with No. 14-seed Auburn defeating No. 2-seed Stanford by a score of 6-2.
D1 BASEBALL PROJECTS AUBURN CLOSER TO HOME: D1Baseball.com also released their latest projections and moved Auburn up from a 3 seed to a 2 seed.
- Auburn is a 2 seed in the Conway Regional, where host Coastal Carolina is the No. 12 overall national seed.
CAN AUBURN LAND A TOP-16 NATIONAL SEED AND HOST? The top 16 seeds earn national seeds and hosting privileges in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was significant for Auburn last season as they steamrolled through the Auburn Regional with a 3-0 record on their way to defeating No. 3 overall seed Oregon State in the Super Regional.
- BA thinks Auburn still has a shot, saying, “there’s still time for several schools to snag one of the 16 regionals,” and that, “Auburn and Tennessee can make their case with a series win this weekend.”
