AUBURN | Auburn basketball is poised to play arguably their toughest schedule since Bruce Pearl arrived.

The non-conference schedule already includes the Battle 4 Atlantis, where Auburn will play preseason top 25 UConn. Then, possibly preseason top 25 Michigan State and/or Baylor, not to mention perennial contenders Syracuse, Arizona State, VCU and Loyola-Chicago.

The SEC schedule won’t be any easier.

Each SEC team plays the other 13 teams at least one time during 18-game schedule. They will then play their three permanent opponents a second time with the remaining two games changing annually.

Auburn’s three permanent home-and-home opponents include Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss. The Tigers are also scheduled to face Florida and South Carolina twice during the league slate.

The SEC Tournament returns to Tampa Bay, Fla. for the first time since 2009 when Amalie Arena hosts the event from March 9-13.

Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas will all likely be ranked inside the top 25 before the season starts. Auburn is hovering around the 20-25 range in some preseason polls.

Auburn Live reported Auburn’s unofficial SEC schedule last week. The news became official on Thursday.

Some recent history

Auburn is 6-4 against LSU in the last 10 games. The Tigers have won four of the last six meetings, but have lost two straight in Baton Rouge, including a 24-point loss at LSU last season.

Auburn is 4-5 in their last nine games against Alabama since the 2017-18 season. The Tigers were swept last year and have lost two straight in Tuscaloosa.

Under Bruce Pearl, Auburn basketball has been very successful against Kentucky at home. In fact, the Tigers have won four of the last five at home. Auburn is 5-5 in their last 10 against Kentucky. For perspective, nearly 25% of Auburn’s all-time wins against Kentucky have come since the 2015-16 season.

Auburn is 4-4 in their last eight games against Arkansas, with two wins in Fayetteville. However, Eric Musselman’s group swept the Tigers a season ago.

Bruce Pearl and Auburn basketball have beaten Tennessee six straight times. The Vols and former guard Justin Powell will try and break that streak. That game will likely happen late in the season.

Auburn is only 3-7 against Florida in the last ten matchups. Two of those wins came in the 2018-19 Final Four season. The Tigers haven’t won in Gainesville since 1995-96 season.
