Auburn DB no longer with the team, plans to enter transfer portal
JD Rhym, a former 4-star recruit in Auburn’s class of 2022, is no longer with the team sources tell Auburn Live’s Justin Hokanson.
“I’m told by two sources that CB, JD Rhym is no longer with the team and plans to enter the transfer portal. We will continue to monitor the situation, but that’s his status right now. The spring window opens April 15 and closes April 30.”
As a recruit
Rhym flipped from LSU to Auburn late in his senior year. He committed to Auburn while Bryan Harsin was the head coach. Rhym was one of the highest ranked players in the Tigers’ class of 2022. He was the No. 162 overall player in the class of 2022, the No. 14 safety, and the No. 16 player in the state of Georgia according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
From the Auburn University website: Instinctive defensive back with great coverage ability … registered 54 tackles, 5 TFL as a senior for Coach Shelton Felton at Valdosta High … 46 tackles, 5 TFL as a junior for the Wildcats … two-year all-Region 1-AAAAAA … AJC first team all-state … On3 and 24/7 rank him among the top 15 overall recruits in the state of Georgia … top 25 nationally at his position by 24/7, On3, Rivals and ESPN.
As a player
In 2022, Rhym had 14 tackles and a pass break up in a reserve role. Rhym began to break into a role at corner during the 2023 season, his sophomore year. He had 6 tackles and an interception that happened in a game against Samford.
