Auburn in final 5 for No. 1 recruit in Mississippi Kamarion Franklin

Auburn football is in the final five for Lake Cormorant (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin.

Franklin, who is ranked the No. 1 overall recruit in Mississippi, released on Friday his final five schools.

“Down to 5,” Franklin wrote on Twitter. “But which way is home?”

Tigers fans hope it’s Auburn, but it won’t be easy. Joining Auburn in the final group are Ole Miss, Tennessee, Miami and Florida State. The Vols currently lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 75%.

Franklin visited Auburn in March and said he would return for an official visit. No date has been set.

Franklin impressed with Auburn visit

“It was good, I enjoyed the practice and the atmosphere, and the love coaches showed,” Franklin said.

He was impressed with Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett.

“Really how he’s a different coach, he doesn’t yell much, doesn’t cuss or anything like that,” Franklin said. “He’s just a cool, calm, collected coach. He stood out. He got his point across. I feel like he will be a good developer.”

Hugh Freeze is also a big part of his recruitment.

“They’ve been recruiting me really well since the new staff came in,” Franklin said. “They are doing a good job recruiting me, staying in touch. Coach Garrett, Coach Freeze are doing a good job.

“(The relationships are) good, especially with Coach Freeze and Coach Garrett. They’re from Mississippi, so it stands out.”

Commitment timeframe

According to On3’s Chad Simmons, Franklin has three official visits set, but no commitment timeline in mind.

Franklin has locked in official visits to Miami (June 2-4), Tennessee (June 16-18) and LSU (June 23-25). He has not set one to Auburn.

“I’m not sure when I will commit yet but it really doesn’t matter if it’s before my senior year or not,” he told Simmons. “When I know, I’ll know. I’m not going to rush anything so I’ll take my time, take the visits I need to take and make the right decision whenever I feel ready.”
