4-star edge commit Jamonta Waller visits Auburn with 5-star Florida commit LJ McCray

From AuburnLive’s Cole Pinkston…

AUBURN – Auburn 4-star edge commit Jamonta Waller made his way back to Auburn over the weekend. He was unable to make it for the Iron Bowl, so he wanted to spend some time at Auburn again before signing with the Tigers.

His other goal on the trip? Try to help add another huge addition to the Tigers’ defense. Waller spent a good amount of his visit hanging out with current Florida commit, 5-star defensive lineman LJ McCray. The two were once committed to Florida together.

“I just want us to be on the same field together, man,” Waller said. “They can’t block both of us. It’s just magic what it could be. I can’t wait.”

‘feels more and more like home’

The visit for Waller reaffirmed why he made the move to Auburn in October.

“It was great man, I love it,” Waller said. “Every time I come back it just feels more and more like home. I just love it.”

Auburn defensive coordinator Ron Roberts has been a major factor in Waller’s recruitment. Roberts has already made his in-home visit with Waller.

“He’s ready for me to get here, ready to come in, ready to work,” Waller said. “Now that I am here, I am going to get guys like LJ.”

What did Roberts specifically tell Waller about his role for next season?

“The Jack position, coming off the edge,” Waller said. “That undersized Jack, speed, getting to the quarterback, make an impact.”

Two all-star games

Before he ever makes it to an all-star game, Waller was recently recognized as Mississippi’s 6A player of the year.

“Yes sir, it is a great feeling,” Waller said. “It lets you know that I’m not being overlooked. All of my hard work is shown and the people realizing and seeing it is a blessing really.”

Next, Waller will play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game against some of his future teammates.

“I will play with some of my future teammates, I will get to tackle some of them boys,” Waller said. “It’s going to be great. Just have fun and continue to show all of the scouts that I can do literally everything.”
