Georgia running back JP Powell earns Auburn offer, plans to visit
Miller County (Ga.) running back JP Powell earned an offer from Auburn on Friday. The offer came after Auburn running back coach Derrick Nix made an evaluation visit to see Powell.
Apparently, Nix liked what he saw. The first-year Auburn offensive coordinator/running backs coach offered Powell soon after arriving on campus.
“Coach Nix stopped by and offered me,” Powell said. “He stayed for my whole practice and filmed me.”
Powell was excited about the new offer. It is one he had been hoping to get.
“It felt really good to be offered by AU,” he said. “I’ve had my eyes on them for a while. There have been some big-name backs coming out of Auburn and I’m excited that they think enough of me to offer to possibly be one of the next great backs there.

“Auburn has a great reputation for academics and also putting a national championship caliber team on the field, too.”
Powell plans OV to AU in the summer
Powell has started to develop a relationship with Nix. He also has gotten a little taste of what it would be like to play for Nix at Auburn.
“I really enjoyed getting to talk with Coach Nix,” he said. “I think he is a great coach. My running backs coach at Miller County allowed Coach Nix to basically tell us what drills he wanted to see me in and that was great. I was able to do a lot of the drills they do at AU.”
Next up for Powell is an official visit to Auburn.
“I’m super excited about my offer from Auburn and plan to take an official during the summer,” he said.
Powell, who is listed at six-feet tall and 185 pounds, also claims offers from Florida State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Boston College, among others.
