Auburn Regional: Tigers take down Stetson, advance to regional final

AUBURN — Auburn is now one win away from advancing to a Super Regional.
The No. 4 national seed Tigers took out Stetson on Saturday night 8-5 in front of another all-time record 7,434 fans to advance to the regional final on Sunday. It was another late night at the ballpark for Auburn, as the game wrapped up well after 11 pm CT.
One more win, and the Tigers will host a Super Regional for the first time in program history.
Auburn scored two runs in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth, two more in the seventh and one in the ninth. Stetson scored one in the third, two in the fourth, two in the seventh.

Player of the game: Cooper McMurray
McMurray was dynamite at the plate. He finished 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored and one RBI. McMurray also drew a walk, getting on base four times in the win.
Honorable mention POG: Sam Dutton
He threw 6.2 innings, allowed seven hits and five runs, but really battled and nearly got through seven full innings if not for some questionable ball calls by the home plate umpire in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Snow and Terrell were back at it after two hits each on Friday night. Against Stetson, Snow had three more hits (two doubles) with two runs and two RBI, while Terrell added two more hits (also two doubles) and three RBI. That’s nine combined hits in two games from Snow and Terrell. Irish added two hits (double, HR), with two runs scored and two RBI.

The Tigers’ eight doubles set a new season high.
Of note: Auburn leadoff hitter and should-have-been SEC Freshman of the Year Chris Rembert is just 1-for-10 in the first two games of the regional.
Next up?
Auburn will play for a regional championship at 6 pm CT on Sunday evening. The Tigers will face the winner of Stetson and N.C. State, who will play Sunday at 2 pm CT in an elimination game.
Auburn simply needs one win to advance to a Super Regional. Stetson and N.C. State will need two starting on Sunday. If the Tigers fall on Sunday evening, the winner-take-all game will be on Monday. That time is TBD.
