Auburn senior offensive lineman nominated for Wuerffel trophy
Auburn’s preseason hype has been rather low. Then again, if there is no such thing as bad publicity, then the publicity has been good. We are, of course, referencing most well-respected media outlets. Most have ranked Auburn in the bottom tier of the conference for the upcoming 2022 season.
For a team that has little to no chance for success by the public eye, there are plenty of players who have been nominated for preseason awards. Nick Brahms, veteran Auburn center from Navarre, Florida, has been nominated for the Wuerffel trophy. In fact, this is the second year in a row he has received a nomination.
What is the Wuerffel trophy?
An explanation of the award from Wuerffeltrophy.org:
Honoring college football’s most impactful leaders in community service, The Wuerffel Trophy is presented to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field. National voters consider nominees from over 100 major universities. The Wuerffel Trophy brothers support each other’s efforts around the country.
Named for Danny Wuerffel, 1996 National Championship winning quarterback of the University of Florida Gators – who is renowned for his commitment to service and leadership – The Wuerffel Trophy is the premier major college football award that places the majority of its voting emphasis on Community Service.
Multiple awards during his time as a Tiger
The veteran Center has earned many various awards during his tenure as a Tiger.
Those awards include: The Prestigious 2017 U.S. Army All-American Game Felix “Doc” Blanchard Award (Army All-American out of high school), the 2017 & 2018 SEC Academic Honor Roll, the 2017-2018 AUSPY Top Tiger Award, the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student Athlete Honor Society, and made the Dean’s List – Spring 2017, Spring 2018.
He now hopes to add the prestigious Wuerffel trophy to his resume.
Brahms’ outlook for 2022
Brahms is heading into senior season No. 2 as he was given an extra year of eligibility. Some believed Brahms may move on to one of the many opportunities that await him after football. The NFL is absolutely an option for the former 4-star offensive line recruit. He is also a graduate of the Pro-Flight aviation program at Auburn, with hopes to be a pilot in the near future.

As he was nominated last season, Brahms has been a leader for Auburn’s offensive front for some time. The Florida native took over as the starting center for the Tigers all the way back in 2017.
Brahms goes into the 2022 season as the unquestioned leader of the offensive line, as well as the unquestioned starter at the center position. Sporting a leaner build and more body strength, Brahms could be primed for his best year at Auburn yet.
