AUBURN- With Auburn traveling to No. 2 Georgia for their first road game of the season and still struggling offensively to find rhythm, there are a number of challenges for the Tigers.

Senior Brandon Council will remain at center for the second game this season after Tate Johnson suffered a season-ending injury against Missouri. When asked about the Georgia defense and what challenges they bring, Council spoke heavily on their third down packages and the schemes that they like to run in this scenario.

“I believe just their third down packages,” Council said. “They’ve got some interior stunts that kind of hinders the run game, but we’re going to start off fast. You start off fast and run the ball on them and keep them out of their third down packages. We could demolish them, I believe, personally, upfront.”

Auburn is currently averaging just 4.17 yards per carry as a team this season. Georgia has only allowed 12 rushing plays with 10+ yards this season, so this average does not seem like it will be improving this weekend against the Bulldogs.

When is comes to third down conversions, Auburn is currently 22-65 this season, placing them 105th nationally in the category. On the other hand, the Bulldogs defense has only given up 18 of 65 attempted third down conversions, placing them 13th nationally in the category.

Council talked about how he believes that the Georgia defense is lacking in depth right now because of injuries. He seems very confident that Auburn’s offense will be able to wear them out and stay in front of the chains on Saturday.

“Because right now, they don’t have that much depth due to injuries in the interior D-Line, and the guys that do come out- I don’t think they trust them,” Council said. “If we keep them out of third down where they can’t bring packages and keep their main guys on the field, we’re just going to run the ball on them all day because they’re going to get tired.”

Georgia has won 16 of the last 21 games against Auburn. The Tigers, however, do have a winning mark on games played in Athens (18-16), but they have not won in Samford Stadium since 2005. The game will be on CBS at 2:30 p.m. CT.
