Big, versatile offensive lineman Gernorris Wilson commits to Auburn
Gernorris Wilson, a versatile offensive lineman from Florida, has committed to Auburn.
Wilson, from Lakeland, announced his commitment Monday on social media. His decision comes one day after leaving an official visit to Auburn.
“The family environment,” Wilson said of why he chose Auburn. “It’s different. There’s really no other place like it. I can’t really pinpoint it. I’ve just been around it and know (Auburn) is where I want to be.”
Wilson had early offers from Oregon, North Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville and Missouri, among others. He ultimately chose Auburn over the Tarheels.
A big reason for his decision is the opportunity for early playing time.
“I really don’t want to toot my own horn, but I feel like I can be a true freshman starter,” Wilson said Sunday after his visit. “To me, I’ve just got to come in, hit the weight room hard, get the plays down and I feel like I can be a starter as soon as I come.”
Relationships, official visit played big roles for Wilson
Another reason were his relationships with Auburn offensive line coach Will Friend and offensive line assistant Joe Bernardi, Jr.
“I love them,” Wilson said. “They seem like real down-to-earth people. I actually spent time with them (during my visit) and they’re just real. That’s the best I can put it. They’re just real people.”

As for his official visit, Wilson said the only thing that could’ve made it better was an Auburn win.
“Amazing,” Wilson said. “The atmosphere, the fans and getting to hang around Auburn for like more than a few hours. The game didn’t turn out well, but the atmosphere and the spirit was there and was like something I’ve never experienced before. So it was definitely special.”
Wilson, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, plays right tackle in high school. He could project at either guard or tackle in college.
He doesn’t plan to take any other visits.
Wilson is Auburn’s 10th commitment in the 2023 class and second offensive lineman, joining three-star center Bradyn Joiner.
