AUBURN – After a season-ending injury against Mississippi State ended his junior season, Bo Nix now has decisions to make.

Sources have told Auburn Live that Nix is considering all options, including turning professional, or even entering the transfer portal. Auburn Live reported that news on Sunday night. Nix himself confirmed Auburn Live’s reporting on Monday, saying on The Next Round Live show out of Birmingham, Ala. that he is considering all options.

“(Auburn) is definitely my school,” Nix said on Monday. “It will always be my school. Right now, I’m trying to get healthy. I don’t know what next year looks like. I’ll graduate, get through the bowl game, and I think a lot of juniors are in the same boat. I want to get my ankle better and worry about that in the future.

“My ultimate goal is to play in the NFL. Depending on that, obviously, that has a lot to do with it. Looking back, we’ll see what’s going on, what’s changed, and go from there. It’s too big a decision to make over a week.”

Bo Nix finished the 2021 season with 2,294 yards, 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Nix completed 61 percent of his passes, which is a single-season high. Nix didn’t top 60 percent passing in his first two seasons. The 11-3 touchdown to interception ratio was also the best season of Nix’s career.

Would Bo Nix transfer?

The fact that Nix may be considering turning pro isn’t all that surprising. Auburn will be looking at a rebuilt offensive line in Bryan Harsin’s second season, and likely a rebuilt wide receiving corps. Whether Nix were to get drafted or not remains to be seen. Simply moving on from college could be in the cards and it wouldn’t be completely shocking.

The more surprising move would be for Nix to transfer, considering Nix’s father played at Auburn, and Nix himself grew up loving Auburn football. There’s certainly a history and legacy there. As Auburn Live reported on Sunday night, sources say that the heavy criticism that Nix has received over his three years as Auburn’s starting quarterback has weighed on not only Nix, but the family. It wouldn’t be the only reason for transferring, but would certainly play a role, if Nix decided to leave.

Nix has throw for 7,251 career yards, 39 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Nix has led Auburn to wins over top-ten teams Oregon, Alabama and Ole Miss during his career, along with a ranked Arkansas. Eleven of Nix’s 13 career losses were to teams that finished or were ranked inside the top 15 at the time of the game. Mississippi State has also been inside the rankings multiple times this season, which would bump that total to 12. Auburn’s loss to South Carolina in 2020 is the only loss in Nix’s career that didn’t come against a top 25 team at the time, or a team that finished inside the top 25.

Nix would seemingly be set up well to be Auburn’s starting quarterback if he returns. T.J. Finley and Demetrius Davis are planning on returning as of right now, so there would be competition. But, Nix’s experience and being the incumbent starter would certainly place him in a good position.

If Nix were to leave, the competition would be between Finley and Davis, with freshman Holden Greiner coming to campus soon.
