BREAKING: 4-star CB Devin Williams commits to Auburn

Auburn has added a commitment from four-star cornerback Devin Williams.
Williams, who attends Buford High School in Georgia, announced his decision Monday on social media. He chose the Tigers over Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Georgia, among others.
“I committed to Auburn,” Williams told On3’s Chad Simmons. “It was a different feeling. I was planning some visits in the spring, I thought I would take official visits, but over the last four or five days, it just hit me. The more I thought about it, I knew Auburn was where I wanted to be. I knew it was time to commit and I knew Auburn the school.”
A big factor in his commitment was Auburn cornerbacks coach Wesley “Crime Dog” McGriff.
“I just love Coach Crime and his personality,” Williams said. “I love what he’s about. He’s a very down-to-earth guy, funny. He gets me a lot. He can coach and showed me some of the players he coached. Coach Crime has a rich history of getting guys to the NFL and producing while also having fun.”
Coaching staff played big roles in Williams’s decision
McGriff isn’t the only coach who played a role in Williams’s decision. Hugh Freeze and new defensive coordinator DJ Durkin did, too.
“The whole coaching staff, I love what they’re about,” he said. “Got an elite defensive coordinator to pair along with this defense. I feel like they are just trying to build Auburn back to what it was.

“And (Freeze) preaches culture a lot. He does not like to go into the portal and get guys because you see other teams out here doing that and it does not create culture. I actually agree with that. It stands out a lot to me about him. He believes in the high school process of recruiting. He is not just going to go get some guy from the portal to replace you with. Coach Freeze is very honest with his players, very transparent.”
The On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, ranks Williams the No. 14 cornerback in the 2025 class. It also ranks Williams the No. 122 overall recruit in the country and No. 19 in Georgia.
As a junior, Williams finished with 21 tackles, 18 solos, five pass deflections and a fumble recovery. He also saw time at wide receiver where he had 14 receptions for 392 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 28 yards per reception.
Williams is the ninth commitment in the Tigers’ ’25 class and first defensive back.
