It has been three weeks since Auburn fired Bryan Harsin and the search for his replacement could be nearing an end.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin has generated the most buzz as being the most likely to be Auburn’s next head coach. Auburn Live’s Justin Hokanson has had Kiffin at the forefront of the search, as have several regional and national writers.

College football reporter Bruce Feldman is among them.

Feldman on Sunday said on The Audible, a podcast with himself and Stewart Mandel, he believes Kiffin is more likely than not to be the Tigers’ next coach.

When asked his opinion on the chance Kiffin is the next Auburn coach, Feldman replied “75 percent chance.”

Feldman explained his reasoning.

“Way more money (at Auburn) and people have won championships there,” Feldman said. “No one has won at Ole Miss. No one’s got close to winning at Ole Miss.”

Mandel agreed, but not for the same reasons.

“I think he would relish the chance to be Nick Saban’s annual rival and possibly even the one who takes him down,” Mandel said.

Kiffin on Saturday addressed the speculation about him being the Tigers’ top target. He reportedly has been offered an extension by Ole Miss, but there hasn’t been any confirmation he’s signed it.

This is from a national On3 news report:

“I’m very happy here…Very happy here and appreciative of the leadership here,” Kiffin said. “I love being here. There’s a lot of people coming back (next year), a lot of good guys coming back. Very excited about the future…

“Like I said, I love being here. I mean, I don’t want to look to next year already with a regular season game (remaining), but this is not one of those years where you say we’re gonna lose all these guys. There’s a lot of people coming back and a lot of new guys offensively, especially. So, very excited about the future.

“I don’t know that stuff out there — No. 1 stuff. Maybe if they watched the first half (against Arkansas) I wouldn’t be No. 1 anymore then.”
