AUBURN — Bruce Pearl is 7 wins away from becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history (6 wins away to tie Joel Eaves for the distinction).

His accomplishments also include two Southeastern Conference regular-season championships, two SEC Tournament championship and five NCAA Tournament berths with the Tigers.

Auburn’s first-ever No. 1 ranking in the AP poll? Under Pearl. Auburn’s first Final Four? Under Pearl. The highest NBA draft pick in school history? Under Pearl. Without question, Pearl will go down as the greatest men’s basketball coach in Auburn history, and the best still might be yet to come.

And because of Pearl’s success and what he’s done to elevate the basketball program and the university as a whole, Auburn University is honoring him with a documentary telling the story of a basketball revival under his leadership.

Auburn Athletics will host an invite-only premiere event for the new WarEagle+ documentary, “Make History: The Revival of Bruce Pearl and Auburn Basketball” on the evening of Monday, Dec. 2, at Auburn University’s Langdon Hall. The documentary will be available for streaming exclusively for subscribers on WarEagle+ (www.wareagleplus.com) beginning at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

You can watch the trailer for the documentary here.

“I’m thankful to Auburn and Auburn Sports Properties and the people that put this thing together,” Pearl said. “It is really, really well done. You couldn’t tell the difference watching it from seeing any kind of, anything on ESPN or anything on CBS, anything at the highest level. It’s very, very professionally done.

“I don’t think I can live up to nearly half of the accolades the way they portray us. It’s a reflection of being some place, we’re 10 years here in our 11th year and having been in the SEC, this being my 17th season, and having been at Auburn longer than any other head coach, I suppose it comes along with the territory.”

Pearl currently ranks No. 12 among active NCAA Division I head coaches in career wins (662) and No. 46 all-time.

Since he arrived at Auburn for the 2014-15 season, Pearl has produced one of the biggest turnarounds in the college basketball landscape. Prior to his arrival, Auburn has an average RPI of 191.8. In the past five seasons, the Tigers finished their campaign 16th, 13th, 27th, 11th and 5th respectively in the final NET Rankings/RPI.

During Auburn’s historic March Madness run in the 2018-19 season, the Tigers became the first team ever to knock off the three winningest programs in college basketball history in succession – Kansas, North Carolina and Kentucky.

And things aren’t slowing down.

Auburn jumped to No. 2 in the latest AP poll and ranks No. 1 in KenPom and No. 2 in the newest NET ratings after a 7-0 start to the season that includes four ranked wins and a Maui Invitational championship.

Which is why, although Pearl is grateful for the documentary, his focus right now is completely on Duke and the season ahead.

“It will mean a lot when the season is over. It will,” Pearl said. “It means a lot, but not tonight, not today, not this week, not in season. I’m putting everything, investing everything into this team.”
