BREAKING: Cincinnati transfer wide receiver Nick Mardner commits to Auburn
Auburn has added a commitment from transfer wide receiver Nick Mardner.
Mardner, who is transferring from Cincinnati, announced his decision Monday.
“I feel comfortable at Auburn,” Mardner told Auburn Live. “I feel comfortable with the plan Coach Hugh Freeze and Coach (Marcus) Davis have for me. I’m ready to play in the SEC, play big-time ball, at Auburn. That’s what I’m all about.”
A big reason for Mardner choosing Auburn is Davis, Auburn’s first-year wide receivers coach. There is history between the two. Mardner was a wide receiver at Hawaii in 2021. His coach? Davis.
“(Davis) was big-time for me in choosing Auburn,” Mardner said. “I put my faith in him. He was the majority of why I chose Auburn. He’s a great guy, a great leader. He’s got love for the game and love for me.”
Mardner excelled under Davis
In three seasons at Hawaii (2019, 2020, 2021) and one season at Cincinnati (2022), Mardner totaled 81 receptions for 1,488 yards and 11 touchdowns. His best season came in ’21 at Hawaii under Davis. That season, he had 46 receptions for 913 yards and five touchdowns.

“(Davis) knows my ins and outs and what makes me tick and go,” he said. “He’s helped me in my career tremendously playing under him in ’21 and having good success under him.”
Mardner, who is listed at 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, is a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility.
He plans to move to Auburn later this week and begin classes for spring semester.
“I’ll be there sometime this week or weekend,” he said. “I’m ready.”
Mardner is the eighth transfer addition for Auburn in the ’23 class. He joins offensive linemen Gunner Britton (Western Kentucky) and Dillon Wade (Tulsa), defensive linemen Lawrence Johnson (Purdue) and Mosiah Nasili-Kite (Maryland), tight end Rivaldo Fairweather (FIU), defensive end Elijah McAllister (Vanderbilt) and linebacker DeMario Tolan (LSU).
