D'Angelo Barber, State Champion LB, signs Letter of Intent with Auburn
Linebacker D’Angelo “DJ” Barber of Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville signed his National Letter of Intent with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.
The Barber File
Position: Inside linebacker
Height/Weight: 6-0 / 221 pounds
Notable trait/Auburn fit: Barber is a heat-seeking missile at linebacker. He is undersized, but plays with passion and energy like many successful Auburn linebackers in the past.
On3 Industry Ranking: (88.23) No. 558 overall, No. 52 LB, No. 29 in Alabama
Commitment date: July 4, 2023
Chose Auburn over: Ole Miss, Arkansas
Time of enrollment: January
Notable: Barber is cousins with Auburn linebacker Austin Keys. He is a quiet guy and walks around with a confidence. He could make a big impact down the road at linebacker for Auburn.
Quoteworthy: “I stay with my grandma and help take care of her. She means the world to me. And when I first started getting recruited by Auburn, Coach Freeze got on the phone with her and talked to her. That meant a lot to me.”
Breakdown
**Breakdown written by Auburn Live Recruiting Analyst Cole Pinkston
— Barber is physical in the box. Auburn has not had a player with Barber’s physicality since Zakoby McClain. Physicality is becoming more of a lost art with linebackers in today’s game, but without a backer who can take on blocks and play down hill in the box, the run defense will surely suffer.
— Barber is the ideal box linebacker. Think McClain, KJ Britt, Tre Williams, Deshaun Davis, etc. Also like those players, Barber plays with a great deal of passion.

— He arrives to the ball carrier with bad intentions. He plays linebacker with somewhat of an old school style, but has enough ability to do what is asked of linebackers in today’s world of college football.
SEC readiness
Barber may not have the NFL measurements, but he’s ready to play and compete in the SEC. Auburn’s linebacker room has some young talent, so it isn’t a guarantee that Barber will be a plug-and-play kind of player. The Tigers’ coaching staff is high on Barber’s ability as an inside linebacker and will be ready to get him rolling soon after he arrives.
