Division II rising star Elyjah Freeman commits to Auburn

AUBURN — Lincoln Memorial University standout Elyjah Freeman has committed to Auburn.
Freeman visited Auburn on April 11-12. Before that, he visited Indiana and following his Auburn visit, he visited Tennessee. He ultimately chose the Tigers over the Vols.
Following his visit, Freeman told Auburn Live, “it was definitely amazing. The coaching staff is great, the relationships they built are great, everyone. BP’s loyalty and what he brings to Auburn is amazing. It was great.
“Sitting down with the coaches and converse with them like humans, like family, and chopping it up with some of the players that is something you can’t write down. Coaches, players, they treat you like family when you show up.
“They build on the same thing. Culture, relationships, the fun you have on and off the court, then turning you into a pro at the end of the day.”
He joins UCF transfer Keyshawn Hall, Mississippi State transfer KeShawn Murphy, Texas Tech transfer Kevin Overton, and JUCO center Emeka Opurum as players to join the Tigers’ roster since season’s end.

Freeman was a Division II standout this past season.
The 6-8 freshman from Palm Beach, Florida averaged 18.8 points and 9.2 rebounds during his first season at LMU. He shot 57% from the field, 46% from three (57 attempts), and was the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year. He played 31 minutes per game and shot 81 percent from the free-throw line.
Freeman projects as either a “big guard” or “four man” in Auburn’s offense, or he is capable of playing the “three” or “wing” position. He is versatile enough to do both. He may start at the wing and go from there.
BASKETBALL ROSTER TRACKER: APRIL 19
Freeman was a McDonald’s All-American nominee coming out of Wellington High School in Florida.
Freeman scored at least 25 points on seven occasions and scored 36 and 35 points in consecutive games in early January. That offensive outburst led Freeman to be named the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics national Player of the Week.
From reading a few scouting reports, Freeman has an NBA frame, is twitchy, explosive, and can handle the basketball very well. He brings real versatility to the court.
