Former Auburn LB Greg Carr makes College Football Hall of Fame ballot
On Monday morning, the National Football Foundation announced the names that will be on the voting ballot for the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame. Included on the ballot is former Auburn LB Gregg Carr.
Carr played LB for Auburn in 1981-1984. He was a prolific player for the Tigers. He totaled 289 tackles along with 9 sacks in his four year career. In 1984, Carr was the SEC’s most honored athlete. He was not only a consensus football All-American, but an Academic All-American as well. The same year, Carr was considered the SEC’s most valuable defensive player.
He went on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers for four seasons. He worked toward a medical degree at UAB and now practices Sports Medicine and Orthopedic surgery at Southern Orthopaedic Specialists in Birmingham, Alabama.
Besides his prolific senior year at Auburn, Carr was also selected as a 1st team SEC All-American three years in a row. A former player and teammate of Carr is not at all surprised by the news.
“Gregg was a great leader. He was always a hard worker. As a football player, he was a coach on the field. He made the rest of the team better.”

Massive honor for former Tiger LB Carr
According to the National Football Foundation (NFF), there have been more than 5.54 million collegiate football players with that number growing every day, of course. Only 1,056 players have been inducted to the College Football Hall-of-Fame. To be nominated is a high honor to say the least.
NFF Chairman Archie Manning has this to say about the ballot: “Having a ballot and a voice in the selection of the College Football Hall of Fame inductees is one of the most cherished NFF member benefits,” said Manning “There is no group more knowledgeable or passionate about college football than our membership, and the tradition of the ballot helps us engage them in the lofty responsibility of selecting those who have reached the pinnacle of achievement in our sport.”
To be eligible for the Hall-of-Fame, each player must not only have been an All-American selection, but must have kept a upstanding record as a citizen. Carr has met all criteria for the prestigious honor. Voting will take place in early 2023.
