Former Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham will make his first NFL start for the Las Vegas Raiders in place of long-time starter Derek Carr according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Stidham has thrown only 61 passes in his nearly four year NFL career.

Auburn has not had a starting quarterback in the NFL since Cam Newton was the on-again, off-again starter for the Carolina Panthers in 2021.

Carr, who has started at quarterback for the Raiders since 2014, currently leads the NFL in interceptions with 14 total. Stidham is set to take over for the Raiders’ last two regular season games. It is not yet clear if he will remain the starter into the next season.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also reported on the news: “Raiders do want to get a look at Jarrett Stidham, and Carr’s accuracy became an issue. But as far as Carr’s chances to wear a new uniform, dominoes are starting to fall.”

Stidham, a former 5-star quarterback recruit, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, selected by the New England Patriots as the No. 133 overall pick. He began his college football career at Baylor, then transferred to Auburn where he played for the 2017 and 2018 season. Stidham led Auburn to an SEC Championship appearance in 2017.

Stidham completed 470 of his 739 passing attempts for 5,952 yards, 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He completed 64 percent of his passes while at Auburn.

Stidham would go on to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl and win “SEC newcomer of the year” in 2017. He was also a post-season 1st team All-SEC selection.
