Former Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown was the definition of a 5-star recruit when he was a Tiger. That has not changed since he entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick.

Brown is currently the 10th highest graded defender in the NFL with an 89.9 grade.

Statistics while at Auburn

Brown played a significant role in all four of his years at Auburn. The former 5-star recruit quickly joined the defensive line rotation during his freshman year and recorded 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery.

After his freshman year, Brown played and started every single game for the next three years. He would go on to record 159 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries.

Brown dominated opposing offensive lineman and worked his way to be the 7th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Year 3 statistics through week 6

Brown has an overall grade of 89.9. His run defense grade is 85.3 while his pass rush grade is a 76.1.

Brown has tallied 24 total tackles to start his third NFL season. He only has .5 sacks so far, but has been a menace with his hands knocking down 6 passes. Brown has even notched an interception so far.

Brown has been able to pressure the quarterback 6 times. He was able to get a clean hit on the quarterback 3 of those 6 times. One of the more impressive stats, and a big reason why his defensive grade is so high is that Brown has not missed a tackle yet according to PFF.

Not only is Brown the 10th highest graded defender in the NFL, he is the highest graded player on the Panther’s roster. The next highest graded player is running back Christian McCaffrey with a PFF grade of 80.8.
