Four-star receiver Karmello English backs off Auburn verbal

Four-star receiver Karmello English of Phenix City (Ala.) Central has de-committed from Auburn.
English, the No. 150 recruit nationally in the On3 Consensus, had been the highest-ranked member of the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting glass. He committed to Auburn on July 4.
His commitment announcement came somewhat out of the blue. And so did Wednesday’s Tweet announcing his de-commitment.
Said English on Twitter: “First and foremost, I would like to thank god and the University of Auburn and their great coaching staff. I am grateful to the staff for providing me a opportunity to represent WDE as a student-athlete. I have had several conversations with my family and have come to a difficult decision. I will be de-committing from the University of Auburn and reopening my recruitment.”
English committed to Auburn over Kentucky and Michigan. In a recent interview with Auburn Live, he said he also continued to hear from Alabama.
At this time, it is not yet known if English will continue to consider the Tigers.
Auburn now has seven total commitments and one verbal from a receiver (Daquayvious Sorey). However, the Tigers appear poised to add a new commitment Thursday.

Four-star receiver Adam Hopkins of Thomasville (Ga.) Thomas County Central will announce his commitment Thursday at 8 a.m. CT. He is thought to be a strong Auburn lean.
Just two weeks ago, English attended the Auburn win over Mercer at Jordan-Hare Stadium and he said he was impressed by much of what he saw and experienced.
“I really feel like they did pretty good,” English told Auburn Live’s Jeffrey Lee. “They did great actually. From how they moved the ball and everything. I saw the offensive stuff they were running and they were throwing the ball more than they were last year.”
He added, “The atmosphere was great.”
