Hugh Freeze adamant 'there is no depth chart' as Auburn spring camp gets underway
AUBURN — Hugh Freeze wants to make one thing clear as spring camp gets going: there will be no official depth chart anytime soon.
What Freeze and his coaching staff won’t have time for leading into the A-Day game on April 8 is narrowing down repetitions for players or creating depth charts after such limited time to evaluate.

“We won’t narrow down the reps during spring. You have to during fall, but we won’t in spring. Everyone got the same number of reps today,” Freeze said on Monday. “We’re going to rotate people. I told them today (Monday) in the team meeting, there is no depth chart. I don’t care what group you trot out there on the field right now, I don’t have in my mind, this is a first team, second team, third team guy. You’re going to get the reps — and we’re going to figure out where we are after spring.
“I really believe that everybody is going to get equal reps this spring and develop some depth, at least, before we decided where everybody is in the pecking order of depth charts.”

That statement impacts perception on a number of positions, most importantly the quarterback position, as Robby Ashford, T.J. Finley, Holden Geriner and Sawyer Pate compete at the position during spring. How repetitions are divvied up could impact the race leading into A-Day on April 8.

RELATED: OFFENSIVE PRACTICE OBSERVATIONS FROM DAY ONE
Despite Freeze saying there will be no official depth charts, there certainly appear to be some unofficial ones.
For instance, along the offensive line, Dillon Wade, Tate Johnson, Avery Jones, Kameron Stutts and Gunner Britton appeared to be the first group from left to right. Jeremiah Wright was working through accessory work and not specifically a part of the individual drills or slotted into a pecking order.
So, while on official depth charts will be given or addressed with players, moves will certainly be made over the next six weeks.
Auburn will return to the practice fields on Wednesday.
The Tigers will practice every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the most part leading into the April 8 spring game inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. Here’s the schedule of practices: February 27, March 1, 3, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27, 29, April 3, 5, 7 and 8. Auburn will take the week of March 5-11 off for spring break.
