Hugh Freeze final scrimmage takeaways: Scrimmage talk, Shane Hooks and Izavion Miller's emergence, motivation and more
Auburn football wrapped up fall camp on Saturday as Hugh Freeze put his team through their second scrimmage of the camp. Now, classes start and we're two weeks until the UMass game on September 2. Freeze met the media on Saturday afternoon and discussed a wide range of topics. The quarterbacks were obviously a hot topic. Payton Thorne finished 12-17, with two touchdowns and an interception. Robby Ashford finished 8-15 with two touchdowns. Holden Geriner finished 7-11 passing. "I thought we threw and caught it fairly well," Freeze said. "(Payton) had two really bad decisions I thought, then settled in and played really solid. I thought he pulled a couple of quarterback runs. I thought played solid after the first two possessions. He settled in and played really well." And don't count on Ashford and his development just yet. "I’ve said it from the get go. Robby, if he handles things the right way, has to be on the field some. He’s different. He’s probably had his best three practices the last three practices. I’m proud of him," Freeze said. "He’s going to push Payton, Payton’s going to have to play really well. I love the competition. The one thing I’ve said and mean, that guy is different and he has to get some touches." Here's the other main takeaways.
