Ike Irish named SEC Freshman of the Week for the second straight time
AUBURN — Auburn baseball’s Ike Irish earned the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor for the second time in just as many weeks on Monday.
The Michigan native continued to improve this weekend, turning in a league-best 11 hits. In all four games this past week, Irish recorded multiple hits, including a season-high of four on Sunday afternoon. He finished 8-for-13 in the series against USC with three runs, a double, a triple and two RBI’s.
To begin his career at Auburn, Irish not only leads the SEC, but is second in the nation with his .586 batting average. His 17 hits also leads the conference and is fourth in the country. Ike Irish is the first Auburn player to record 17 hits in the first seven games since at least 1993.
This week, Auburn will continue their non-conference play with Florida A&M on Wednesday and a weekend series against Lipscomb at Plainsman Park.

Grading Auburn’s series win over USC:
This series was one that began and ended odd, with the weather forcing changes to the weekend and game three ending in a tie due to a time restriction. With that being said, Auburn is now 5-1-1 on the season and has won their first two series.
The Tigers’ most promising win this weekend came on Saturday, when Auburn defeated USC, 12-6. They are still struggling with their Sunday games, though. This team showed improvement offensively, but is continuing to run into some trouble with the pitching staff and making some fielding errors that could easily be avoided.
Looking forward, Auburn plays Florida A&M this Wednesday at 6 p.m. before their weekend series against Lipscomb begins on Friday. All games this week will be at Plainsman Park.
