Auburn has recently been going back to key 2024 targets and officially handing out a re-offer. Hugh Freeze and his new staff have given out several. The latest to earn a re-offer is Kaleb Harris, a 3-star defensive back from Alabaster, Ala. (Thompson).

Harris was a stand out for Thompson High’s state championship team. He had an interception in the 7A Alabama state championship game against Auburn High School. Harris is a physical defensive back who probably projects best at safety or nickel on the next level.

Already close with Etheridge

The first time Harris was offered, he got the call from Auburn secondary coach Zac Etheridge.

“It was Coach Etheridge the first time,” Harris said. “We’ve had a good relationship.”

For the re-offer, Harris heard from several defensive staff members along with Etheridge once again.

“Coach (Zac) Etheridge (called),” Harris said. ” I talked with everybody though. Coach (Ron) Roberts, Coach Ty Holder, and it was Coach Crime (Wesley McGriff). That was my first time speaking with him.”

According to Harris, Freeze retaining Etheridge was a smart move and only helps the Tigers with him.

“That’s really good,” Harris said. “I think that was a good idea with them. He’s got a lot of connections and keeps good bonds with guys.”

Harris said it was like any normal phone call, but Etheridge wanted to be clear that the new staff wants him as well.

“Really the same thing,” Harris said. “Me and Coach Etheridge already have the relationship. We just spoke like regular and he said ‘we’re going to re-offer you’ with the new coach.”

Harris going to Auburn Junior Day

The Auburn defensive coaches did not talk specifics about what position they will be recruiting him. Rather, the coaches wanted to make sure Harris could make it to campus for a junior day scheduled in late January.

“Not yet, but I will be going down there for the junior day, so I’ll talk with them a lot more and spend time with them down there,” Harris said.

His relationship with Etheridge is important, but Harris is very familiar with the school and football program at Auburn as well.

“My favorite program growing up,” Harris said. “So, I’ve been down there a couple times this past year. If it fits me when it’s time to sign, I’m going to go there. If not, it’s still one of my dream schools.”

As for a commitment timeline, there are no plans in place yet.

“I’m just taking it as it comes right now,” Harris said. “My senior year I’ll cut the schools down before I commit.”
