BREAKING: In-state DL Malik Blocton commits to Auburn over Texas

Pike Road (Ala.) defensive lineman Malik Blocton has committed to Auburn football.
Blocton, who is ranked the No. 41 defensive lineman in the country, announced his commitment Saturday at a ceremony at Pike Road High School.
He chose Auburn over Texas and many others.
“Auburn is home to me and they’ve been consistent with me,” Blocton told Auburn Live. “No matter the coaching staff or how old I was, Auburn always has recruited me.”
Another reason Blocton chose Auburn is new defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett. Although Garrett is new to Auburn, he’s not new to Blocton.
“He recruited me when he was at Liberty,” Blocton said. “We have always had a good relationship and it just got better once he got to Auburn. I was one of the first guys he talked to once he got to Auburn. He made sure I knew I had an offer.”
Coaches played major roles in Blocton’s commitment
Blocton likes Garrett both as a person and the coach.
“He’s just a great guy,” he said. “He’s a great coach. I have watched him at practice and watched him coach. I like how he treats the players. He’s just a real cool person and cool coach.”
Blocton also has been impressed with coach Hugh Freeze.
“Coach Freeze is one of the best head coaches that I’ve talked to,” he said. “He made me a priority and talked to me every time I was at Auburn. He made sure he talked to me and made sure I knew how much he wanted me at Auburn.”

Blocton now will follow the footsteps of his older brother, Auburn defensive lineman Marcus Harris. Although Harris wanted Blocton at Auburn, he did not push.
“He’s excited for me,” Blocton said. “He didn’t really push me to Auburn. He wanted me to go wherever I wanted to go and where i was comfortable, but he’s happy I chose Auburn.”
So is Blocton.
“This is it for me,” he said. “It feels great.”
He said Auburn fans will be happy about his decision for the next 3-4 years.
“Auburn fans are going to get everything I have every single day and not just on Saturdays,” he said. “I’m going to go out there and make plays and give everything I have to Auburn.”
Blocton, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, is ranked the No. 25 overall recruit in Alabama. He is the Tigers’ 10th commitment in the 2024 class and first defensive lineman.
