In-state TE ArMari Towns, Purdue commitment, talks new offer from Auburn

Southside (Selma, Ala.) tight end ArMari Towns, who is committed to Purdue, was very surprised to wake up to an Auburn offer on Aug. 1.

Towns had talked with Auburn tight ends coach Ben Aigamaua, even visited Auburn last fall, but was not expecting to get an offer.

“Coach Ben, the tight ends coach, checks up on me from time to time, but when I woke up and saw the official offer graphic got sent to me, it was a complete surprise,” Towns said. “I was very surprised.”

In a good way.

“I was excited, very excited,” Towns said. “I like Coach Ben. We haven’t talked as much because my team didn’t go to the 7-on-7, but I would like to talk to him more to know what my chances are, how serious they are.

“Because if I had the chance, I’d most definitely love to be closer to my family. Auburn and Alabama are the top two schools that I had been introduced to growing up. So, that would be big.”

Auburn in December signed brothers Derick and Eric Smith from Southside. Towns said he plans to visit Auburn in the fall.

“I’m coming to some games this year to support my guys, Derick and Erick,” he said. “We went to middle school together before I went to Hoover.”

Smith said currently two schools are recruiting him more than the others.

“At the moment, it’s really just Purdue and Troy that are on me heavy,” he said. “I have other offers, but they don’t communicate. Purdue and Troy are actually trying to have conversations.”
