Four-star edge Jamonta Waller of Picayune (Miss.) Picayune Memorial signed his National Letter of Intent with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.
The Waller File
Position: Edge (Jack linebacker)
Height/Weight: 6-0.5 / 240 pounds
Notable trait/Auburn fit: Waller has an elite motor and get off as an edge pass rusher. He has also proven to be stingy against the run. He is the perfect fit for a Jack linebacker in Auburn’s defense.
On3 Industry Ranking: (93.96) No. 85 overall, No. 9 edge, No. 2 in Mississippi
Commitment date: Nov. 11, 2023
Chose Auburn over: Flipped from Florida, Penn State
Time of enrollment: January
Notable: Usually, Auburn defensive coordinator Ron Roberts is not mentioned with recruits too often. For Waller, however, Roberts was the key. Roberts visited Waller every chance he got and made him feel like a perfect fit for the defense at Auburn.
Quoteworthy: “The connection with the staff played a big role in my decision. Coach Garrett and coach Freeze being from Mississippi and always letting me know them Mississippi boys are different. That went a long way with me.”
Breakdown
— Waller is a high-motor football player. He has a powerful and springy get-off at the snap of every play making him a difficult assignment for offensive tackles on the edge. His explosiveness is easily one of his best traits.

— He can win the pass rush with quickness or with the bull rush–there is really no limitation to his pass rush other than winning with the long-arm technique. While he is somewhat sawed off in build, he has good length for that build–or good enough to win.
SEC readiness
— Like all of Auburn’s commitments to this point, Waller is physically ready to take on the SEC. He does not have elite length, but he has elite physicality and get off as a pass rusher. That ability will earn him a role in the rotation in year one, and we have a lot of confidence in saying that.
