BREAKING: JUCO DB Chancellor Anthony commits to Auburn, likely closes Tigers' 2023 class
Tyler (Texas) Community College defensive back Chancellor Anthony has committed to Auburn football.
Anthony, who has three years of eligibility remaining, announced his decision Sunday on Twitter. His commitment to the Tigers comes directly after an official visit to the Plains.
“Every JUCO kid dreams of playing in the SEC,” Anthony told Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston. “I feel like every kid that grows up watching football dreams of playing in the SEC. The fact that I have the chance to play in the SEC, which is the closest thing to the NFL that you can get, that is just a dream come true.
“I had to take this opportunity to play in the SEC and play along with some great coaches like Hugh Freeze. He’s going to turn this program around. It was the coaches and the environment and you can’t beat playing in the SEC. It was a great opportunity for me to fit in and come in here and play. I’m going to make an impact.”
Anthony plans to enroll at Auburn this summer and will be immediately eligible.
“I’m going to be signed before the second summer semester starts so I can go ahead and get it,” Anthony said. “I’ll be able to play and ready for the fall. It’ll be sometime in the next couple of weeks.”
Anthony a versatile defensive back
Anthony played in four games last season at Tyler Community College in Texas. According to the Apaches’ website, Anthony recorded 14 tackles, 13 of which were solos. He also had two pass breakups and an interception.

His best game came against Cisco College. In a 21-17 win, Anthony had a season-high 10 tackles, including nine solos, and two pass breakups.
Anthony said he could play cornerback, nickel or safety at Auburn.
“I feel they like my range in the backfield,” he said. “I can go sideline to sideline and I can attack the ball to help the team create turnovers. I’m a plug-and-play guy, so I can play any position that is needed. I can play free safety, strong safety, it doesn’t matter. I’ve trained for all of it. Wherever I’m needed to play.”
JUCO DB could be last addition to Auburn’s ’23 roster
Anthony is the 42nd addition to Auburn’s roster this offseason as Hugh Freeze’s has flipped nearly half the roster. The Tigers signed 21 high school and junior college players and 20 players from the transfer portal.
The class ranked No. 17 in the country, according to the On3 team ranking, and No 8 in the SEC. The 20 ranked No. 5 in On3’s transfer team ranking.
Anthony, who is originally from Cedar Hill, Texas, likely is the last addition for Auburn and Freeze. The Tigers are at or near the 85-scholarship limit.
More on Anthony from Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston…
Two strengths
- Ball hawk: Anthony has a knack for getting in the passing lanes. He does not have much film, but his practice film is some of the more impressive you’ll see in getting inside of receivers and cutting them off from the ball–especially on crossing routes. That is an important skill as the crossers are tough to stop.
- Anthony seems to be pretty speedy on tape. He can zip around in zone coverage and play man coverage well.
One area for improvement
- Anthony does not have a lot of film, but in his spring film, there is plenty of evidence that he can play. Size seems to be the biggest area of concern with Anthony. He’s tall and lengthy, but needs to fill out more to play in the SEC. The good news, he is not far from being physically ready to play.
