BREAKING: Kansas transfer defensive lineman Gage Keys commits to Auburn
Kansas transfer defensive lineman Gage Keys has committed to Auburn football.
“I chose Auburn because we play against the best competition in the country,” he said. “I feel like I’m one of the best defensive tackles in the country and I want to prove myself.”
Keys, who has two years of eligibility, announced his decision Sunday on social media. His commitment comes after an official visit to the Plains over the weekend.
It was his first visit to Auburn and it didn’t take him long to realize he wanted to be a Tiger.
“About halfway through the first day,” he said. “I definitely knew that this was somewhere I needed to be. The scheme is going to put me in positions to make a lot of plays and I know I’m going to be very successful here.”
Jeremy Garrett played big role in Keys decision
Keys also met extensively with defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett.
“I definitely had a good time chopping it up with him and getting to know him as a person,” he said. “I think he’s one of the best d-line coaches in the country. I’m excited to get to work with him.”
Keys, a 6-foot-5, 290 pound graduate transfer, had 21 tackles, including 13 solo tackles, in 2023. He started his collegiate career at Minnesota before transferring to Kansas.
Keys attended Hilliard in Davidson, Ohio, and was ranked a three-star recruit in the 2020 class. He was ranked the No. 835 overall recruit, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
He plans to move to Auburn on or around Jan. 6. Keys is the second transfer commitment for Auburn, joining former Georgia State wide receiver Robert Lewis.
“My message to the Auburn fans is I hope ya’ll are ready to get one of the best d tackles in the country,” he said. “I’m going to make a lot of plays and we’re going to win a lot of games.”
