It took 28 games, but former Auburn standout cornerback Noah Igbinoghene finally recorded his first NFL interception Sunday night. And it could not have come at a bigger moment for his team, the Miami Dolphins.

With time winding down and Pittsburgh attempting to score the go-ahead points, Igbinoghene picked off Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett at the goal-line with 18 seconds left to seal a 16-10 Miami win.

“The ball is in the bag right there,. I’m going to put it somewhere,” Igbinoghene told reporters after the game. “I actually didn’t know [if I was inbounds] because the referee called it out at first but then I saw the review and it was in. Man, I was so excited we got this win for this team. We put the work in this week and then we went out and did it.”

It was, per the Palm Beach Post, Igbinoghene’s first interception since “Nov. 3, 2018 when he picked off Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond in the fourth quarter of Auburn’s 28-24 win over the Aggies.”

For Igbinoghene, life in the NFL hasn’t been easy thus far.

He was a first-round draft pick in 2020 after a stellar junior season at Auburn. But the Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) product has had more downs than ups in the NFL over three seasons — even Sunday before the pick.

As the Post noted. “Igbinoghene has frequently drawn criticism for his play, particularly in relation to the lofty expectations of his draft position. The Steelers, who now employ former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores as a senior defensive assistant, were quick to target Igbinoghene throughout Sunday’s contest. The Steelers’ lone touchdown, a second-quarter pass to George Pickens, came with Igbinoghene in single coverage.”

But when it counted most Sunday, Igbinoghene came up huge for his team.
