AUBURN | We will be breaking down all things Auburn vs. Akron tonight right here.

This will be a stream of consciousness on things happening in the game, as we analyze all the happenings of the game in real time.

Make sure you have this page open and are refreshing throughout the game to get my thoughts on how the game is transpiring.

Pregame

Ladarius Tennison and Tar’Varish Dawson aren’t dressed out. Jaylin Simpson, who missed the last scrimmage, is dressed and ready to play.

1st Quarter

Auburn starts out in the nickel.. They will probably stay in that for most of the game.

TD Moultry held the edge well against the outside zone play and McClain was there to clean it up.

The Edge players look to be in a constant rotation.. have already seen Height, Moultry, Leota, and Hall.. Height turned the edge exceptionally well on the fumble play.

Caylin Newton is in at receiver on the first drive of the game.

Nix gets a quick game: hitch on the first throw..

Great throw in the zone hole to Jackson.. I like the play call.

Tank takes it to the house on a wide zone look! Council climbs to the second level and springs the TD. Wide zone is a different look than what we have seen.

Austin Troxell turned his man out of the play on the single man block.. Really nice work by the OL on that play. Nice drive as well..

TD Moultry strings the play long and had the speed to keep up. Is he going to make a difference this year?

Hall bended the edge as good as you could ask for on that one.

And then Romello Height and Marcus Harris join the party.. Man, that pass rush looks nasty at the moment.. Multiple guys getting in the backfield on every play.

The line up on the 3rd down pass rush was filthy.. Marcus Harris, Romeo Height, Derick Hall, TD Moultry.. Moultry absolutely wrecked the middle.

Out route to Shenker.. a very simple way to get your tight end involved in the passing game.

Some backside spillage on the outside zone play..

I-formation.. you have to love it.

Just a simple RB Bubble to Shivers.. Shenker and Malcolm Johnson were absolutely blocking their tails off.. Well-timed screens are good screens. Running screens as your go to first and second down plays becomes predictable.

Just a thought.. we haven’t really seen the secondary in action yet.. The DL has been too active to allow anything from the Zips in the passing game.

End of 1. Auburn 13, Akron 0.

2nd Quarter

HOUSE CALL. Ja’Varrius Johnson was out the gate, wide open. The fake fly sweep with a simple crosser from Johnson. The timing was perfect.

Zykeivous Walker surged from his 3-technique spot for a tfl.. very nice

Deep ball to Jackson! Another huge play off of play action. Protection is how it should be.. Jackson got loose on the deep post. The ball was under thrown by Nix, but a nice adjustment.

Weird design on the Tank run.. A wrap from the bunch look from Robertson who was the only receiver in the bunch to the right.

HOUSE CALL part II: Hudson slips out on the seam route.. Pass protection was picture perfect.. looked to be slide protection right. That’s the execution Auburn fans craved.

Smoke Monday looks more comfortable.. he is able to roam around in a deeper safety spot. Playing much less man coverage.

Side note: Bryan Harsin sporting the blue fitted cap and a long sleeve, thin pull over.. I personally couldn’t do the sleeves, but if he’s comfortable..

Ro Torrence just checked and played press man on the field side.. When he came in, Pritchett bumped over to nickel to cover the slot. Interesting rotation.

Trick plays will happen in this offense.. Remember Boise State vs Oklahoma…

First sprint out play I have seen so far.. It is successful. Bo looks comfortable on the move obviously. He set his feet and put his weight into the throw… Thats new.

FANTASTIC open field block by Shenker on the QB pull lasso look. He looks to be a complete tight end.

On the goal line.. Deal, Frazier, and Fromm all checked in. That’s 13 personnel. In the I as well.

I like the way Austin Troxell has looked in the run game.. He has provided a nice push at times. He was a big question mark at LT heading in.

Alec Jackson has been rotating in at guard as well.

Probably the most interesting thing I have seen so far tonight is TD Moultry being lined up inside. He’s been at a 3-technique and has wreaked havoc on the interior.

Romello Height has been abusing the tackles he’s gone against. He looks to be a budding star at the EDGE.

Bo has thrown 1 incompletion to my knowledge.. Guys have been open and he has been accurate.

Kobe Hudson has had inconsistent hands at practice.. He dropped one there, but it wasn’t a great ball from Nix either.

If you listened to our Modcast, I was super high on Shenker. I have never seen him drop the ball to my knowledge.

At the half: Auburn 37 Akron 0

3rd Quarter

Tank does most of it by himself.. Showed that speed. Shedrick Jackson blocking down field like he does so well.

Shivers HOUSE CALL part III: The outside zone cut-back. Shivers saw it on the backside and that was all she wrote.

It’s a meeting at the quarterback. The pass rush is deep and effective.. If you remember, this was one of my questions entering the game. TD Moultry has woken up.. Can he keep it going?

Nobody knows the long-snapper until he does something wrong…

TJ Finley and Jarquez Hunter join the party.. What a debut for Hunter, a hole fit for a mack truck and a great outside cut. Then he finds another crease for a big gain. Give the OL some credit here.. They are working.

Luke Deal with a great kick on the long run as well. WOW

Sean Jackson the walk-on from Hewitt-Trussville surged like a mad man and then got some assistance from the OL.. WOW again

Finley on the sneak.. Touchdown!

Notice the RB rotation.. Hunter was hot, but he was noticeable gassed after the third carry.. So, they slipped Sean Jackson in to give Hunter a QUICK breather.. Seems smart right?

There’s that arm talent on display.. Also on the OL left to right – Zierer, Stutts, Irvin, Manning, Coffey

Finley not nearly as comfortable as Nix on the move.. Thats why they gave him that play. Wanted to se how he executed.

Is this Auburn’s first punt of the game? Triple WOW

Tony Fair.. threw the OL away like he was weightless.. then missed the tackle.

The shut-out is currently in jeopardy.. Can they hold? Looks like starters are trickling back in.. Harsin wants it

4th Quarter

The light show is fantastic.. I wanted to see more.

Aaand there goes the shut-out.. Oh well Jeffrey, better luck next time. Thanks for playing.

The student section has brought it all night–and is still full as of right now.

First time I am really noticing Elijah Canion on the field.. He may have been out there some earlier, but I missed it.

Romello Height just dropped in coverage.. He is an athletic specimen and has stood out in this game.

I thought Demetris Robertson flashed a few times.. The receivers as a whole were more solid than I expected.

Jarquez Hunter should be able to add some quality carries to the backfield.. He’s shifty.

I had compared Sean Jackson to former Auburn RB Kam Pettway.. What y’all think?

Is it fair to call Jarquez Hunter a diamond in the rough? As soon as I saw his film I knew he’d be good.. Didn’t realize he’d look so quick on this level.

That will do it. Auburn 60, Akron 10
