AUBURN — The Auburn football team is holding its annual spring A-Day game on Saturday, April 8. It’s the first under new head coach Hugh Freeze.

The team is split into two teams: offense and defense. The defense will start with a 24-0 lead, there will be a 60-minute running clock, and the offense will have the time allotted to try and win the game. The winners will likely eat steak, with the losers eating hot dogs, according to Freeze. Points will be awarded the same as an official football game for touchdowns, safeties, field goals and extra points. There will be no points for turnovers or big plays, things like that.

LIVE updates from the Auburn spring game

NOTE: The updates at the top are the most recent.

— Auburn ran the ball 51 times for 280 yards. They passed for 60 yards on 5-12 passing.

— McPherson hits the 33-yard FG and the game ends in a 24-24 tie.

— We’re off to the press conference room for postgame coverage, so make sure you stay tuned to Auburn Live for stories to follow.

— Big pass play from Geriner to Landen King, although it looked like the defense stopped playing for a minute thinking Geriner was sacked. It went for 19 yards.

— This is the final quarter of the game. This rain is making things quite difficult to get much done, so can’t say I blame them for this decision. Get inside and get out of here.

— McPherson hits a 39-yard FG and the offense cuts the deficit to 24-13.

— Ashford’s 39-yard pass is the only positive completion in the first 20 minutes. There’s been 160 yards accumulated on the ground.

— Evan McGuire hits a 19-yard FG and the offense cuts the lead to 24-10 with 20 minutes of action left to play.

— Ashford dropped a dime down the seam to Tar’Varish Dawson, good for 39 yards, most of it in the air. Ashford-led offense trying to put points on the board again.

— Ashford is already up to 38 yards rushing in two possessions at QB.

— Alex McPherson attempts a 49-yard FG in the rain and missed it wide right.

— Marquise Gilbert and Jaylin Simpson are running with the first-team at safety. D.J. James and Nehemiah Pritchett are the starters at corner.

— Battie shows great patience.

— Geriner is back out there with the first-team offense, this time with Brian Battie at running back. Battie wasted no time with an 18-yard run, crossing the field and showing some of that speed.

— OG Jeremiah Wright doesn’t appear to be playing today. He’s standing behind the offense watching every possession.

— Sean Jackson was the third running back on the field, as Holden Geriner comes in at quarterback. That possession didn’t yield anything either.

— T.J. Finley is the second quarterback on the field and the offense goes three and out. Kayin Lee had a nice pass breakup on a pass intended for Mardner.

— Alston with a couple of long runs (13 and 20 yards), and then Ashford follows with a pull and run for a 7-yard touchdown. The offense is on the board. 65-yard drive, all on the ground. It’s 24-7, defense.

— The rest of the ones, along with Hunter and Ashford, are WR Nick Mardner, WR Koy Moore, WR Ja’Varrius Johnson, TE Rivaldo Fairweather, LT Dillon Wade, LG Connor Lew, C Avery Jones, RG Jeremiah Wright and RT Gunner Britton

— Robby Ashford with a nice pull and what seemed like a long run, but he was called down awfully early.

— We’re underway with a pair of Hunter runs up the middle.

— Keionte Scott, Jay Fair, Ja’Varrius Johnson and Tar’Varish Dawson are practicing returning punts.

— If you want to read into anything in terms of QBs and their RB partners during warmups, Robby Ashford is with Jarquez Hunter; T.J. Finley is with Brian Battie; Holden Geriner is with Sean Jackson. Damari Alston is out there, he just wasn’t with that group at the time.

— If warmups are any indicator, this isn’t going to be a very productive day in the passing game for obvious reasons. Lot of drops, inaccurate throws in this rain right now as we’re 38 minutes from the start.

— The 24 points was put back on the scoreboard, so everything will be normal. We’re 45 minutes from the start. It’s 12:45 p.m. CT right now.

— The team has taken the field and is going through stretching. The 24 points has been taken off the scoreboard for the defense, not sure if that means they’re changing the format or if it’ll be put back up before we start.

— There are probably 1,000 people here 30 minutes before we start, all huddle up underneath the overhangs of the upper decks.

— It’s raining and has been for the last two hours. It’s actually picked up steam. I’m not sure what gets accomplished in this game other than allowing fans to see a little football.
