Maurice Harris joining Auburn's staff as Director of Football and Recruiting Relations

AUBURN – Maurice Harris will join Hugh Freeze’s staff as the Director of Football & Recruiting
Relations. He has a long history with Freeze, serving as an assistant coach during Freeze’s
tenure at Liberty, Arkansas State, and Ole Miss.
Harris spent last season at Jackson State as the offensive coordinator. Under Harris, Jackson
State ranked No. 1 in the SWAC in total offense and No. 4 in scoring offense. He has strong ties
to Mississippi as a recruiter, which helped Jackson State land the No. 2 FCS recruiting class in
back-to-back seasons.
Prior to his one season at Jackson State, Harris spent four seasons as the co-offensive
coordinator at Liberty under Hugh Freeze. He also served as the tight ends coach at Ole Miss for
seven seasons (2012-18).

At Ole Miss, Harris was an integral part in developing first-round NFL Draft pick Evan Engram.
Engram set a school record with 162 receptions, earned first-team All-American honors, and
won the Ozzie Newsome Award.
Harris was the tight ends coach at Arkansas State from 2008-11. He started his coaching career
at Alabama State in 2004 as the running backs coach and was the offensive coordinator for one
season (2007) before accepting his role at Arkansas State.
