Wesley Yates III, the No. 8 shooting guard in the 2023 class, took an official visit to Auburn over the weekend.
Yates, from Beaumont (Texas) United, arrived in Auburn on Saturday and stayed until Sunday evening.
“It went great,” Yates said. “I loved it.”
Yates arrived in time to watch No. 1 Auburn beat Oklahoma, 86-68.
“The game was very exciting,” Yates said. “The crowd was crazy. The atmosphere was crazy. They played hard. It was a great game. I watched everybody. I like how everybody contributed.”
Yates also spent time with the players and the coaches.
“I hung out with the whole team,” Yates said. “Everybody is real cool, like a family.”

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl and assistant Wes Flanigan both met extensively with Yates and family.
“Coach Wes and Coach Pearl are cool,” Yates said. “They are really cool people; nice and genuine people. Energy is crazy with Coach Pearl. And it’s like a family atmosphere. Both of them treated me like family this weekend. Me and Coach Flanigan have a great relationship.”

Auburn made an impression on Yates during the visit.
“Auburn is definitely one of my top schools,” he said.
Yates also is considering Baylor, Arkansas, Stanford, Texas Tech, LSU, UNLV and Washington, among others. He’s already visited Baylor and Houston unofficially, and taken official visits to Auburn, Stanford and Washington.
“As of right now, I don’t have any dates set for anymore visits,” Yates said.
Yates is the No. 36 overall recruit in the 2023 class and No. 5 in Texas, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
