Oklahoma transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold has signed with Auburn.

Arnold, who has two years of eligibility remaining, announced his decision Friday on social media. He chose Auburn over Mississippi State. His decision comes after a two-day visit to Auburn.

Arnold is transferring from Oklahoma after spending two seasons in Norman. As a freshman in 2023, he appeared in seven games as a backup and started one. Arnold completed 44-of-69 passes (64%) for 563 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 116 yards and a score.

Arnold was named the starter in 2024, but was relegated back to second string after four games.

Arnold played high school football at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas). He was a five-star recruit in the 2023 class ranking the No. 8 overall recruit, No. 4 quarterback in the country and No. 2 player in Texas, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Arnold is the first commitment in Auburn’s 2025 portal class.

On3’s Scouting Summary of Arnold

Tough, live-armed quarterback who quickly rose to be the top 2023 signal caller in Texas. Looks like the most ready to play quarterback in the 2023 cycle. Plays for one of the top high school programs in the Dallas Metroplex and led his team to the state title game as a junior and a deep playoff run as a senior.

The most productive five-star quarterback in 2023, while also facing the toughest competition of the group. Plays in a spread-iso offensive scheme that heavily utilizes play action downfield passes and power running between the tackles. Flashes a quick release in cams and Friday night settings. Shows a strong arm with the ability to generate velocity on intermediate and downfield throws. A light-footed athlete who consistently escapes pressure and makes plays out of the pocket.

Arnold is one of the tougher top quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle, carrying a considerable rushing load. A physical runner who embraces contact. Has the speed to pull away at the second level. Backed up a very productive senior season with a strong showing at the Under All-America Game.

Does not have the stature of some other top quarterbacks at under 6-foot-1 and around 200-pounds but has a relatively big frame at his height. Also doubled as a top baseball player before turning his focus to football.

On3 comparison

Arnold’s live arm, quick release and on-field toughness remind us of Baker Mayfield.

Like Mayfield, Arnold plays with a strong base and generates good zip on his passes. Arnold is a more touted high school prospect and has a quicker release at the same stage, while Mayfield made more improvisational plays at the prep level.
