Hugh Freeze said publicly on Monday that he took no part in creating the "official" depth chart that was released to the media prior to Freeze's weekly press conference. Freeze called it "nonsense" and said, "I don't do depth charts." It was less than two weeks ago that Freeze confirmed reporting of Payton Thorne earning the QB1 job, so he's clearly not against naming starters, although the quarterback position is a big different in nature. And to be fair, Freeze's response about depth charts was in response to a question about the wide receivers, where in Freeze's defense, the position battles remain wide open and the search for playmakers rolls on. Having said all that, it's assumed that any or all of Freeze, offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery and defensive coordinator Ron Roberts had a say in the depth chart that was released. And, the depth chart reflected much of what the media saw during open viewing windows during fall camp, so it certainly appeared accurate. Let's dive into some thoughts on the Tigers' first depth chart with UMass coming to town in just four days.
