Perry Thompson, 5-star in-state WR, signs Letter of Intent with Auburn
Five-star wide receiver Perry Thompson of Foley (Ala.) signed his National Letter of Intent with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.
The Thompson File
Position: Wide receiver
Height/Weight: 6-3 / 205 pounds
Notable trait/Auburn fit: Thompson is exactly what Hugh Freeze is looking for in a receiver. He is big, he is strong, and he can win 50/50 balls. On top of that, he can outrun defenders before and after the catch.
On3 Industry Ranking: (96.76) No. 31 overall, No. 10 WR, No. 4 in Alabama
Commitment date: July 29, 2023
Chose Auburn over: Flipped from Alabama, Tennessee
Time of enrollment: May
Notable: Thompson committed to Alabama long before Hugh Freeze took over as Auburn’s head coach. After plenty of back and forth, Thompson flipped his commitment to the Tigers during Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend Event with many other blue chip prospects in attendance at a pool party.

Quoteworthy: “I just feel like I have to come in and get the job done,” he said. “I really feel like they don’t trust their receivers as much. If there were receivers that they trusted, they would throw it a lot more.”
Breakdown/In-person evaluation
**In-person eval and breakdown written by Auburn Live Recruiting Analyst Cole Pinkston
— Thompson is as advertised. He is a 5-star and he is every bit of it. He is big, he’s physical, he will take a hand off, make a block, chase down a tackle, defend the ball in the air on defense, and make highlight reel catches.

— I find myself looking for something to criticize him on, and I come up empty most of the time. Thompson is a football player, which is not always the case for elite athletes. He understands the game and how to play correctly.
— Thompson may be the most SEC ready of anyone on Auburn’s commit list. He is physically ready to compete against SEC defensive backs. He is also somewhat advanced as a receiver. Thompson has played plenty of safety and knows the other side of the ball as well. He is an impressive specimen and a massive pick up by Auburn.
