Wide receiver Sam Turner of Atlanta (Ga.) Southwest Dekalb signed with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

The Turner File

Position: Wide receiver

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 190 pounds

Notable trait/Auburn fit: Turner is a hard-nosed football player. By far, that is his best trait. He played any position he needed to help his team–including long-snapper and edge rusher on passing downs. Turner is a football player, plain and simple.

On3 Industry Ranking: (88.75) No. 463 overall, No. 76 wide receiver, No. 62 in Georgia

Commitment date: Oct. 10, 2024

Chose Auburn over: Georgia Tech

Time of enrollment: January

Notable: Turner was committed to Georgia Tech when Auburn started to recruit him. The Tigers got Turner on campus for Big Cat Weekend. All he needed to see from there was a game atmosphere. When he saw that, it was a done deal.

Quoteworthy: “Just having that belief that we can compete for a national championship with these next two classes. Coach Freeze is preaching that and we honestly believe that full-heartedly. That’s what makes us come together and make an instant impact.”

Film Breakdown

***Film breakdown written by Auburn Live Analyst Cole Pinkston…

— Turner has a slender build with a decent frame to build on at 6-foot-3 190 pounds. He can max out around 200 pounds on the next level.

— Turner has nice long-speed. He is a long strider and takes the top off of defenses quite often with the go routes.

— Turner has an interesting running style. He’s somewhat long and lanky, but can cut and break pretty well for a taller player.

— For Auburn, Turner is an outside receiver. His skillset is meant to play on the outside and win with his length and long-speed.

— Turner can highpoint the football pretty well on the fade ball, which he gets a good bit. He also shows great concentration in catching the ball in traffic.

— Turner’s routes aren’t bad, but will need some polishing on the next level. Right now, his routes don’t often have clean breaks. He mostly wins by running by defenders.

— I think Turner is still working into his body as he stumbles in routes and with the ball at times. He stays on his feet, but he stumbles more than he should.

— Turner’s ability to adjust to the ball is pretty good. It stands out on film.

— Turner has the makings a of a future contributor for Auburn. He’s more than likely not ready right away as he refines and gets his body prepared in the weight room. He is, however, a solid football player all the way around. He has a nice skillset with really good length and size. His progression will be intriguing.
