SIGNING DAY FLIP: Auburn flips DL Darrion Smith from Tennessee
St. Frances (Baltimore, Md.) defensive lineman Darrion Smith has flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Auburn.
Smith, who is ranked the No. 18 overall recruit in Maryland, announced his decision Wednesday during a ceremony at the school.
“Auburn has been recruiting me heavy,” Smith told On3. “I feel like I’m one of the best players in class and I think they see it also.”
Smith’s decision to flip to Auburn comes less than two weeks after an official visit. The three-star recruit was in Auburn the weekend of the Tigers’ big win over Texas A&M.
“It was definitely amazing,” he said. “It was one of the best college visits I have had. The game, I don’t even know what type of words to put it in. It was a thriller. It was definitely the craziest game I have been to so far.

“The d-line was nice. I love Coach (Vontrell) King-Williams and what he has going on. There’s definitely a bright future for him. He’s different. He’s one of the youngest coaches in the SEC. I just feel like he’s going to be one of the greats. I definitely feel that.”
Familiar faces played role in Smith’s decision
Smith joins two of his teammates in Auburn’s 2025 class, four-star cornerback Blake Woodby and three-star defensive athlete Bryce Deas. Auburn also has a commitment from St. Frances junior defensive back Wayne Henry.
“I didn’t think that anything would give me that home feel that I’ve developed at Tennessee, however Auburn showed me differently,” Smith told On3. “It also helped that two of my teammates are already committed there.”
Smith is listed at 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds. The On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, lists him as the No. 58 defensive lineman in the country.
