Social Slant: Top Twitter reactions to Jeremiah Cobb's commitment to Auburn
Auburn on Friday landed a massive commitment when 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb, a standout at Montgomery Catholic (Ala.), picked the Tigers over Clemson and Tennessee.
He’s the No. 15 recruit in the state of Alabama.
Last season, Cobb rushed 195 times for 2,163 yards and 30 touchdowns. For the Tigers, it’s an important addition because he can play early and they need depth at the position.
They needed this one, too.
Entering the month of July, Auburn had exactly two commitments. That was three fewer than anyone else in the Southeastern Conference. For yes, this is a very good day for Bryan Harsin’s program.
Here are some notable Twitter reactions to Friday’s news …
Auburn’s RB coach was excited about the commitment … as was the rest of the staff
Current Auburn players and commits took notice of this news
Freshman Auburn running back Damari Alston proved he’s a team-first kind of guy when he Tweeted out his approval of Cobb’s commitment Friday afternoon. With current Tigers starter Tank Bigsby likely to leave for the NFL after this upcoming season, that means the depth chart could be favorable to young running backs at Auburn in 2023. So Alston and Cobb no doubt will be competing for carries. That being the case, it’s good to see Alston excited about this verbal. A strong running back room is vital to Auburn’s success moving forward.

And, it’s also no surprise to see 3-star center Bradyn Joiner, Auburn’s first 2023 commitment, excited.
The media also had its say
Auburn’s last commitment prior to Friday was way back on April 10.
That was the day 4-star safety Terrance Love of Fairborn (Ga.) Langston Hughes gave his verbal to the program. since then, Tiger fans had waited — impatiently — for another big pledge to come. Finally, it happened Friday. Meanwhile Cobb has supplanted Love as the highest-ranked member of the 2023 Auburn commitment list. He checks in at No. 168 nationally in the On3 Consensus. Love is at No. 185.
Auburn fans chime in on the new commitment
As expected, Auburn fans have their respective takes on the Tigers’ newest pledge — not to mention the state of Auburn recruiting. All in all, most of the responses we saw were positive. Fans seemed to recognize the importance of Friday’s commitment. Cobb was much needed. He’s an elite in-state target, and he gave the Tigers a big recruiting win over a program of Clemson’s stature.
