After a busy six weeks of hosting recruits on visits, Auburn needed a commitment.

On Friday, the Tigers got one. A big one.

Four-star running back Jeremiah Cobb, the No. 168 overall recruit in the 2023 class, announced his intentions to sign with Auburn.

“Everything is perfect,” Cobb said of Auburn following an official visit June 17-19. “They are trying to rebuild Auburn and make it better and get it back to what it was. I love it.”

Cobb, from Montgomery (Ala.) Catholic, chose Auburn over Clemson and Tennessee. He also had offers from Florida State, Penn State, Oregon, Florida, Texas A&M, LSU and Texas, among others.

Cobb is the third recruit to commit to Auburn in the ’23 class, joining four-star safety Terrance Love and three-star interior offensive lineman Bradyn Joiner.

Auburn getting highly-productive RB in Cobb

Cobb, who is ranked the No. 7 running back in the class and No. 1 in Alabama, rushed for 2,163 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior. He averaged 11.1 yards per carry.

His biggest attributes are his speed and toughness, according to Montgomery Catholic coach Kirk Johnson.

“His speed is definitely something you don’t find in an everyday athlete,” Johnson told AuburnLiveOn3. “He has the type of speed that you just can’t coach. Then you mix in the fact that he is as tough as they come … when he was 140 pounds he was trying to run over people that were 250 pounds. It wasn’t good for his body, but now that he’s put on some muscle and gotten stronger, he has the advantage now.”

Cobb, who is listed at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, can also find the open hole.

“His vision is exceptional,” Johnson said. “He’s a one-cut guy. He doesn’t do a lot of juking. He will make one cut and get vertical, and then he is tough to deal with.”

Cobb also is a threat in the passing game and return game. He had 24 receptions for 561 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.

“He’s versatile on the field,” Johnson said. “Everybody talks about him as a running back, but he is a receiver, too. He can catch out of the backfield. We can line him up in the slot and then he can return kicks. He’s just a versatile offensive weapon. I just tell everybody, ‘just get the ball in his hands, I don’t really give a dang how, just do it.'”

Cobb’s On3 Scouting Summary

“Dynamic back who can get from 0 to 100 in a flash. Shows the ability to accelerate and reach full speed in a hurry. Plays with low pad level and displays tremendous contact balance. Compact build standing at 5-foot-10.5, 185 pounds. Carries his weight well and has good weight distribution throughout his frame.

“Leg drive allows him to pull through arm tackles and fight for crucial extra yards. Showed off his long speed in track, running a 10.88 second mark in the 100 meters as a sophomore. Shows off his receiving ability by working in the slot often. Has some hip stiffness and makes defenders miss with his footwork more than his fluidity.

“His ability to hit the hole at full speed and blow through tackles is his greatest asset on first and second down. If he can continue to refine his ability as a pass catcher he can become a true three-down back at the next level.”
