AUBURN — On March 9th, Auburn gymnast Suni Lee announced that she would not be competing in her final meet in Neville Arena “due to nongymnastics health issues.” She has not performed since.

It wasn’t until earlier today that she posted more specifically about her reasoning, where she tweeted a message saying that she has been struggling with a health issue involving her kidneys.

“It’s been challenging to end my Auburn career early, but I am thankful for all of the love and support,” Lee said in her post.

She planning on training for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, though, according to her post. “In fact, this experience has sharpened my vision for the future,” Lee added.

Before this past season began, the sophomore announced that this would be her last season at Auburn. She had plans to focus solely on earning a spot on the 2024 Olympic team. Lee did not compete for Auburn in the SEC Tournament or the 2023 Regional Tournament and her team’s performance struggled as these meets progressed.

During the 2022 season, Lee earned eight All-American honors, one national championship and one conference title as a freshman. She was also named the SEC Freshman of the year and won the NCAA Championship on beam with a 9.9625.

In her post, Suni Lee added that her time at Auburn was the best two years of her life. She also thanked her doctor, coaches and the Auburn medical staff for helping her through this time.

The Olympian finished with: “War eagle forever.”
