Taliah Scott ties Auburn record in first game and 1,000 program win
The Auburn Tigers women’s basketball came out with a bang in their third game of the season, tallying their 1,000 program win and with freshman hot shot Taliah Scott leading the charge matching a program record in her first game with the team.
The Tigers smashed the Little Rock Trojans in an absolute blow out of 82-48. Scott was unstoppable throwing down eight three-pointers (yes, eight) and 26 points. Her eight threes would tie the program record.
“I got into a rhythm” Scott told the Auburn Plainsman regarding her early success, “ I had most of my teammates finding me, you know, in the open spots. I got most of my shots were catch and shoots, right? So that’s credit to my teammates for getting me the ball in positions where I would be successful.”
Scott’s record matched Tiffany Krantz’s 27-year-old program record while matching Bryce Brown’s Neville Arena record. Auburn coach Johnnie Harris had nothing but enthusiasm for her newest addition in her debut.
“She was ready to play,” Harris said. “That kid is hungry. She’s coachable. She’s a big kid. She loves to have fun and when she’s having fun, she plays well. I saw her getting into her groove. What you saw is exactly who she is.”
Scott missed her first two games because of injury and joins the Tigers after playing her first season at Arkansas where she averaged 22.1 points per game and was a five-time SEC Freshman of the Week. She transferred to Auburn the following season.

“It was fun being out there,” Scott told Auburn. “It’s been a long three or fourth months, rehabbing and trying to get healthy. We’ve been through all the hard stuff, practicing and conditioning. Being able to compete with my team and win together, it was an amazing feeling and I’m so happy to be back.”
Another transfer also led the way for the team in their route of Little Rock.
Texas transfer DeYona Gaston racked a double-double scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds.
“I take pride in my rebounding,” Gaston said. “My focus is to get into the right position to get the rebound.”
According to the Auburn Plainsman, she was also the most reliable player from the line going 11-for-14 in free throws while the rest of the team was just a combined 4-for-6.
The Tigers now open the season at 3-0, leading the SEC, alongside the men’s basketball team who also opens at 3-0. The women take on the No. 25 Oregon Ducks next on Wednesday November, 20th in Eugene, OR.
