Texas Tech transfer guard Kevin Overton commits to Auburn

AUBURN — Texas Tech transfer guard Kevin Overton has committed to Auburn.
The two sides communicated via Zoom on Wednesday. Overton was so impressed with Auburn, and the Tigers in him, that a visit wasn’t necessary. He will still visit, but wanted to commit to the reigning SEC champions first.
Auburn was looking hard for a “combo guard” in the transfer portal. Overton fits the bill.
The belief among the Auburn coaches is that Overton a talented, physical guard who was somewhat underutilized at Texas Tech. With his size and ability to drive, he will be expected to compete at both the “two” and “three” positions.
At 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Overton just finished his sophomore season at Texas Tech after transferring from Drake.
This past season, Overton played in 36 games last season, starting one, coming off the bench as Texas Tech’s top reserve. He scored nearly eight points and grabbed nearly four rebounds per game. He shot 33.1 percent from three and 78 percent from the free-throw line.
