The 3-2-1: Three things learned, two questions, one prediction following Auburn's win over UMass
For the 16th time in the last 18 seasons, Auburn football opened the season with a win. Hugh Freeze and Co. racked up almost 500 total yards, scored six rushing touchdowns, and routed UMass to the tune of 59-14 in front of 88,043 fans inside a whited-out Jordan-Hare Stadium. The win was a blowout and never in doubt, but it didn't feel always like it. Auburn's defense surrendered an 89-yard touchdown drive to start the game and allowed a 100-yard rusher. Payton Thorne managed only 141 yards passing, completing just 59 percent of his passes. This was a game where UMass was simply out-athleted across the field. Auburn forced a pair of turnovers, wreaked "havoc" on defense with negative plays, scored a defensive touchdown, converted 60 percent of their third downs while allowing just one third-down conversion, rushed for nearly 300 yards with Jarquez Hunter standing on the sideline, and did it while resting other key players like Nehemiah Pritchett, Jalen McLeod, JD Rhym, Nick Mardner and Caleb Wooden. A win is a win, actions were put on film, and young players got a taste of college football. Auburn's 1-0 with a tricky road game at Cal ahead, where the Tigers are an early 5-point favorite. With that being said, let's jump into The 3-2-1 for this week.
