AUBURN — After two seasons, Wendell Green Jr. has decided to leave Auburn basketball and pursue professional options.

Green Jr. transferred to Auburn from Eastern Kentucky before the 2021-22 season.

He joins Yohan Traore and Chance Westry as players who have left Auburn since the season ended.

It’s been an interesting two years for Green Jr. He helped Auburn win a SEC regular season championship in 2022 coming off the bench, then earned All-SEC second-team honors taking over starting duties at point guard this past season, as the Tigers won 21 games and earned another NCAA Tournament appearance.

Wendell Green Jr. started all 34 games for Auburn this season, averaging 13 points, three rebounds and four assists per game. He topped 20 points on six occasions, five in conference play, including a season-high 24 points in the close loss to Alabama at home in February. Turnovers were a bit of an issue, averaging nearly three turnovers per game, and only having two games in conference play with less than two turnovers.

During his sophomore campaign, Green Jr. played in all 34 games of the season with five starts. He was the team’s third-leading scorer averaging 12.0 points per game, and dished out a team-leading 172 assists, the eighth most in a single season in program history. Green Jr. ranked No. 35 nationally and No. 3 in the SEC in assists per game (5.1), and also ranked in the Top 50 with a 2.26 assist-to-turnover ratio. He finished third on the team in rebounding with 3.7 per contest, while being the shortest player on team. In SEC play, he led Auburn in assists (5.4 apg) and was second in scoring (12.7 ppg). Green Jr. even averaged 12.9 ppg while coming off the bench during an 18-game stretch from Nov. 24-Feb. 1. On the season, Green Jr. turned in 23 double-digit efforts including two double-doubles.

In his one season at Eastern Kentucky, Wendell Green Jr. was named first-team All Ohio Valley, OVC All-Newcomer Team and OVC All-Tournament team.
