Wesley McGriff departing Auburn, joining the Texas A&M staff
AUBURN — Wesley McGriff is leaving Auburn for a role on Texas A&M’s coaching staff. The news was reported on Sunday morning by TexAgs.com first and Auburn Live can confirm.
McGriff joined Hugh Freeze‘s first staff to help coach in the secondary alongside Zac Etheridge. During the season however, McGriff moved off the field after some disagreements with defensive coordinator Ron Roberts.
McGriff played an accountability and recruiting role off the field for the remainder of the season, drawing praise from players and Freeze himself for his role.

The news comes one day after news broke that Colorado defensive coordinator and SEC veteran Charles Kelly would be joining the Auburn staff. Kelly is expected to help in the secondary and recruit at a high level.
Kelly was in the running to be Auburn’s defensive coordinator when Freeze took the job, but the position went to Roberts. Kelly now returns to his alma mater for the first time since being a GA in 1993.
