Shortly after wrapping up his day-long visit in Gainesville, 2024 defensive back Brayshon Williams was presented with a scholarship offer from the University of Florida.

Williams, a highly-regarded sophomore from Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson, was in town for his first meeting with Billy Napier’s staff. Several of his teammates were present as well, but it’s Williams who now has the opportunity to lace up the cleats for the orange and blue.

“It feels great to be offered from Florida,” Williams told Gators Online. “I got a vibe today after the practices and after everything we did today. Florida feels like home and it’s really one of the top schools right now.

“I enjoyed meeting Kamari Wilson, my favorite player ever. I also met the coaches, like coach Corey Raymond and coach Jamar Chaney. They are real down-to-earth and I like them as coaches. I really have that bond with those boys.”

As expected, UF is not ready to assign Williams to a certain positional group. The versatile defender still has over two years of high school left on his plate, so much of that will depend on his physical and on-field growth.

“Coach Raymond said he only offers dogs and said to keep working to keep that dog,” Williams said. “Coach Chaney said to keep working hard and that I have more potential.”

Polk County Gators

From Lake Wales’ Gervon Dexter to former Lakeland standouts Keon Zipperer, Lloyd Summerall III and Fenley Graham, Williams says there are some familiar faces at the Swamp. In years past, the SEC program also signed the likes of Ahmad Black and Maurkice and Maurice Pouncey.

In a perfect world, the Gators would love to eventually pencil Williams’ name into that group as well.

“Everybody from Polk County goes to Gainesville, so I’m just trying to see what the hype is about,” Williams said. “Now since I’ve been up there, I know what the hype is about.”

Williams wastes no times scheduling a return to trip to Gainesville

Although he is less than 24 hours removed from his first experience at the Swamp, Williams says he already knows when he is returning to campus.

“On Friday, I’m going to Alabama,” Williams said. “I think I’ll be back up up to Gainesville on the 18th, and then March 16 I’m going to Oklahoma.”

The weekend of the 18th is when Williams’ teammate and five-star cornerback, Cormani McClain, will be meeting with the Gators. Highly-regarded defensive backs A.J. Harris and Tony Mitchell also be in town as well.

Williams, a future blue-chip prospect, says he is not ready to release a group of top suitors. The plan is to visit as many campuses as he can and then construct a list sometime after that.

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Williams possesses offers from Georgia, Miami, Texas A&M, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Florida State and Tennessee among others.

During the 2021 season, Williams accumulated 40 tackles (20 solo), two interceptions, including one returned for a 83-yard touchdown, and one pass deflection.
