2024 Florida quarterback target DJ Lagway sets commitment date
In a few short weeks, one of the top 2024 quarterback prospects will come off the board, as four-star quarterback Derek “DJ” Lagway will announce his college commitment on Dec. 7. With visits still planned, the Florida Gators are in prime contention to land Lagway, but that won’t stop schools like Clemson, LSU, Baylor, USC and Texas A&M from going after the No. 2 quarterback in the 2024 class.
Ahead of his commitment, Lagway spoke with On3’s Hayes Fawcett about his future destination and plans.
“I am ready to lock in with a school and start recruiting,” Lagway told Fawcett. “I want to have some dogs around me. As far as baseball, I do plan on going to college to play football and baseball.”
According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Lagway ranks as the No. 17 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback in the 2024 class. On3 has him even higher as the No. 7 overall prospect and the No. 2 quarterback.
Florida hosted Lagway for two in-season visits in 2022
One of, if not the top 2024 target on Florida’s board, Lagway visited for two games this season, making it to Florida’s matchups against Kentucky and LSU.
While the Gators recently landed 2023 four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada, that doesn’t stop Billy Napier and his staff from pursuing the talented 2024 prospect from Willis, Texas. Make no mistake, the Florida coaching staff has made it clear to Lagway that they want him to lead their 2024 class.

“The coaches are letting me know I’m their top guy for the class of 2024,” Lagway told On3’s Sam Spiegelman last month. “They want me to lead the class.”
After Lagway’s last visit to Florida, it was clear the atmosphere in The Swamp made an impression on the 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound gunslinger.
“Florida this weekend was great,” Lagway told On3 after his visit for the LSU game. “It’s always great being around the coaching staff. It was a great atmosphere and being able to see the fans is always amazing because the amount of love they show is tremendous. It was just great to be back down in Florida.”
At this time, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has the Florida Gators out in front at 72.3%. The Aggies come in at second with 8.1%. On3’s Sam Spiegelman put in a prediction for the Gators at a 65% confidence level on Tuesday night.
